But, Im a reasonable person and can synthesize information to
come to a sensible judgment of Bush, Obama or anyone else. I cant say
that for everyone else. Too many people only see the world in black and
white. Things are either right or wrong with never a maybe in between.
Their heroes are absolute, their enemies are vilified.
Politics has always been a foul business in America. It is who we
are and I wouldnt change that. We campaign hard in this land. Elections
are wars. The difference is we use ballots, not guns. And in the course of
these battles are spoken many unpopular words words and ideas you
might prefer not hear. Gratefully, we live in a country where the
unpopular words and thoughts are the ones most protected. What you may
hate hearing most is the crux of free speech at its pinnacle - and it is
healthy!
It seems even among thieves there is still honor, yet none can be
found anymore between those who hold contrary political viewpoints.
At some point, when the competition is done and the votes are
counted, we need reconciliation. Yet, Ive seen few overtures coming
from the far-left. I see the least amount of tolerance from the people who
claim we need it the most. I saw Peggy Noonan interviewed on the
OReilly Factor one night and she was remarking how our politics had lost
a certain amount of grace.
Grace.
Courtesy.
Decency.
Decorum.
Civility.
I finally grew so tired of Republicans, conservatives, and Bush
being the root of all evil, I decided to draw a line in the sand between all I
believe in and those who would try and blur it.
