Im a conservative and believe in basic Republican principles:
rugged individualism, a hand up not a hand out, equal opportunity for
all, small government, and most of all: good looking blondes on Fox News
Channel to deliver my news.
I just wanted to get that out first in the event you somehow got this
book as a gag gift from one of your annoying Republican friends. If thats
the case take heart: the paper in this book will make excellent kindling or
a good drop zone for paper training puppies. Of course, theres always the
possibility they might have actually wanted you to gag on it
so in that
case I guess youre on your own.
You should know I wrote half of this introduction before the book
was written and the second half afterwards. Maybe it has something to do
with my schizophrenic Gemini personality. Not that I believe in that stuff.
But, when it comes to politics, were all a little schizoid. Thats
because Americans are defined more by their common sense and personal
convictions and not necessarily by party platforms. More often than not,
America demonstrates it is a middle-to-right country. Even in the midst of
liberalism conservative values often trump far-left notions. A perfect
example was Californias adoption of Proposition 8 in 2008 to change the
state Constitution to restrict what defines marriage as a union between
opposite-sex couples. Thats a lot of Right for even the Left Coast.
Yet, we do waiver on the political alliances of our representatives
and leadership because Americans are fair-minded and always willing to
give the other guy a chance to prove himself, no matter which party the
other guy comes from. Our ability to forgive political parties for previous
failures is probably our Achilles Heel. But, we cant help ourselves: we
still believe politicians wouldnt lie to us.
Thats so cute.
By most accounts, this book shouldnt succeed. Its not published
by a big company or promoted by an expensive PR firm in New York
